Our specialisations, Research, Management, Communication and Education*, enable you to pursue your personal interests.
The programme is offered by the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), a modern institution which combines research, education and patient care with a strong scientific orientation. Research conducted at the LUMC is ranked among top European and international institutes. The adjacent Leiden BioScience Park offers excellent opportunities for internships and/or a future job.
Within the context of the programme, exchange with other European (Eurolife or LERU) or non-European (Ivy league) universities is encouraged. Internships can be performed all over the world at high quality research institutes and universities.

This two-year programme is highly flexible and allows you to follow your personal interests in the way that suits you best. Students can benefit especially from research expertise at the LUMC in the following research themes: Academic Pharma, Neuroscience, Cancer, Immunity, Regenerative medicine of tissue and organs, Cardio-Vascular, Medical Genomics and Infection.

The programme had the following objectives:
- to impart to students’ academic knowledge, insight, skills, and methodology in the field of biomedical sciences;
- to encourage students to adopt an academic attitude by acquiring the ability to:
- engage in individual and independent academic thinking;
- analyse complex issues;
- write academic reports;
- apply specialist knowledge and skills in a philosophical and social context;
- to prepare students for an academic career and postgraduate education, or to prepare them for a career in teaching or another career outside academia

Beroepsperspectief / arbeidsmarkt
Our alumni have good career perspectives: over 95% find employment, of which more than 50% within a PhD position. Though most graduates work in research, alumni can be found in a wide range of jobs.
Graduates often find employment in universities and academic medical centers, commercial companies (e.g. pharmaceutical industry), non-profit organisations, government or policy-making, or education.
