When you join the MSc Programme in Applied Mathematics at TU Delft you will gain a thorough knowledge of applicable mathematics, in addition to developing expertise in applying the methods and tools of mathematics to problems in science and engineering. This programme focuses on the acquisition of broad experience in simulation and the mathematical modelling of problems in science and engineering, in the mathematical analysis of these models and in the implementation of the results. You will gain sufficient insight into the underlying mathematical theories, allowing you to develop new mathematical methods and techniques.

The main focus is on deterministic optimisation. The specialisation Optimisation is a theory based study, but you will also look into real-life applications in the field of health, logistics energy etc.

What I really like about the courses in this Master's programme is that they all include some sort of project work.

I completed my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics at Leiden University. As part of my Bachelor's, I took some applied courses at Delft University of Technology, which I found more interesting than the theoretical courses. I therefore decided that I wanted to do a Master's in Applied Mathematics at TU Delft.

What I really like about the courses in this Master's programme is that they all include some sort of project work. These projects involve various disciplines such as Physics, Civil Engineering and Computer Science...
If you have a question about homework or courses that you might want to take, you can just go to the professor's office and ask him or her for help.

Delft itself is a really great student city. It has lots of nice little coffee places but also a very busy city centre with a lot of restaurants and bars, so after a hard day's study you have plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy yourself.

TU Delft has a nice ambiance and inspiring programs

I enjoyed studying my bachelor in Applied Mathematics at TU Delft, so I wanted to continue studying something related to Mathematics. TU Delft has a nice ambiance and inspiring programs, so it became a logical choice for me to choose the master in Applied Mathematics.

So far, the master programme met my expectations...
The mathematics department has a lot of knowledge about CSE, and within the numerical analysis group many different subjects are being researched. This gives a nice overview of what can be done in this field of interest. The academic staff at the mathematics department is very approachable as well. They are often very helpful answering questions about courses or graduation. This makes it easier to decide what's the best study program for you.

Overall, many courses in this master programme are theoretical as well as practical. For example, group projects or assignments where realistic problems have to be tackled. In most cases this gives a nice perspective of the work that is going on in the research groups.

The applied mathematics master programme has a lot to offer and can really be fine-tuned according to your personal interests. I still have to figure out with which specific part of mathematics I would like to work with in the future, but there are certainly enough interesting options!

While studying at TU Delft, I realized that one of its main asset is the great career perspective

I studied mathematics during my Bachelor and it felt quite naturally for me to choose the Master programme Applied Mathematics. When looking for specialisations in the field, the Optimisation track offered at TU Delft stood out for me. I was attracted by the amount of freedom in this programme. Although certain courses are compulsory, the programme offers many different electives...
I can quite confidently say that if you study here, you will get all the assistance needed to find an internship or graduate project to place you in the non-academic working environment. In the Applied Mathematics Master you have the opportunity to do an internship as part of the curriculum.

From a social point of view, I was delighted to see how many international students are enrolled at my faculty. I managed to make friends right at the beginning, during the Master Kick-off programme which is also part of the Master Applied Mathematics. Now I have my own social group, and it's great to work and hang out with them. This really made me feel part of the TU Delft community.

I have a Bachelor's in Mechanical engineering from India and post that, worked as a Design Engineer at TATA Technologies. The field of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has always fascinated me which led me to opt for a master's degree specializing in computational science. I am enrolled in the COSSE program as it caught my eye with the idea of offering two master's degrees from two different institutions.

I started at TU Berlin where I completed most of my math courses while at TU Delft the courses are more towards my specialization and will go on to write my thesis at the EEMCS department...
I was fortunate to use the best of both universities to my advantage. No doubt, the program has been a bit heavier and I need to work a bit more than the normal master's students from Applied Mathematics or Scientific Computing, but the gains overshadow the efforts. Another special aspect of the program, which I really like, is the COSSE workshop. It takes place every year at one of the partnering institutions. The workshop is designed in a way to help the current students know the upcoming industry trends and research developments along with providing a platform for the students to showcase their work done in the course of their program.

The aspect of applied mathematics that attracts me the most is its breadth, as it involves real-life applications and (in my opinion) beautiful mathematics.

I am a professor of statistics at the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics. My research focuses on mathematical modelling and the analysis of incomplete and corrupted data. Such data occur in many applications.

Students of applied mathematics acquire thorough knowledge of mathematics and learn to apply it to real-life problems.

Our students are often complimented by their employers for their problem-solving attitudes, mathematical creativity and programming skills.
