The Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft offers a dynamic Master's programme very much informed by the unique circumstances of the Netherlands, where the high population density has strongly influenced thinking about how to work creatively with space. The Faculty has an outstanding reputation and attracts students from all over the world.
The programme is especially strong in such areas as design, research, management, technology and research-by-design. The field of architecture used to be fairly straightforward – it was about the design of buildings. But these days, the field is far more complicated. Where in the past the emphasis was primarily on expanding the supply, far more attention is now directed to maintaining, adapting and replacing existing buildings and neighbourhoods. Construction as a field has therefore become more complex and specialised. That in turn increases the demand for architectural engineers with management skills – engineers who are capable of skilfully directing both the technical and logistical components of a construction project at every phase along the way from design to management of the completed structure.

track Building Technology
Designing and building an innovative and sustainable living environment for tomorrow's world may well be one of humanity's greatest challenges.
The Building Technology track encompasses a broad spectrum of engineering and architectural design skills that lead to one of the dominant professions of the future: the sustainable designer. By focusing on structural, façade and climate design, students learn how to contribute to smart buildings that are sustainable, comfortable and environmentally intelligent. This programme stands out internationally because of its integration of architectural design with technical disciplines, filling the niche between architecture and engineering. Rather than focusing on one or two specialisations, students investigate the whole breadth of building technology, looking at climate design, façade design and structural design, producing designers that know how engineers work. Prospective students must show both technical and architectural skills, interest and understanding. The track is well suited to architectural graduates looking to strengthen their technical qualifications and those with a technical background that want to strengthen their design abilities.
track Management in the Built Environment
Managing the built environment is a major challenge to be tackled in the 21st century.
Students learn how to manage the urban development and construction process so as to guide the many stakeholders to achieve high quality and financially rewarding development. They learn how to manage the process at the 'object level' – that is, involving buildings and structures, as well as at the 'supply level' – involving the management of real estate portfolios and urban areas. This track sets itself apart from other Management in the Built Environment programmes in its design focus. As part of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, this programme builds on our strength in creating multidisciplinary design-based solutions. Prospective students must demonstrate a sensibility to the processes involved in the design of building projects and have a keen interest in managerial issues.
track Landscape Architecture
From architectonic ensembles and urban spaces through to large-scale urban, rural and infrastructural landscapes - the landscape architect is a designer of outdoor space.
The Landscape Architecture track deals with design through all scales as an architectonic composition of natural and artificial materials. The landscape design process is a synthesis of art and technology in which consideration is given to the formal, material and cultural qualities of the site. Students learn to see landscape as a contextual underlay for understanding, ordering and acting in spatial transformations. We emphasise the historical continuity of landscape as a process of time and flows. Situated within the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, this programme focuses on landscape architecture from the context of architecture and design, urbanism and the building sciences. All aspects of the discipline are covered: from planning to design practice, from theoretical considerations to practical exercises, and from research to policy-making. Developing core design skills on real sites is the centrepiece of the programme.

Excellent students can participate in the two-year Honours Programme Master of 20 ECTS.
The Honours Programme Master Architecture and the Built Environment focusses especially on academic research. In a 'master-apprentice' system, honours students will set up and carry out their own research linked to one of the current research programmes of the faculty, under the personal guidance of an experienced researcher. Students will carry out targeted (design) research, running parallel to their regular Master's programme.
