Computer Engineering was my first and only choice as I wanted to be part of a diverse field with access to groups ranging from Circuits and Systems to Networks, Architecture and Services.

I wanted to equip myself in an interdisciplinary fashion as I have always been interested in more than just one thing. I expected to study everything from Networking to Algorithms to Complexity Theory and I got just the right amount.

The program is really flexible and has opportunities to collaborate with Industry as an Internship project...

Roberto Mol
You don't only get interesting theory about the testing of chips, but the teacher also links this theory to the practical (business) world

I am Roberto Mol, a master student in Computer Engineering at TU Delft. Prior to my master, I completed my Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, also at TU Delft. During my Bachelor, I enjoyed the "Computer Architecture and Organisation" course the most. Because of this, I stumbled upon the Computer Engineering master programme. After seeing the structure of this programme, the amount of interesting courses, and the "track core", I decided to study this.

For me, the special thing about this programme is the amount of freedom you have...
This gives you the possibility to tailor the master to your own wishes, which I happily did. For example, my favourite course was the specialization course: "VLSI Test Technology & Reliability". In this course, you don't only get interesting theory about the testing of chips, but the teacher also links this theory to the practical (business) world.

I would advise anyone who considers to choose the master programme Computer Engineering to take a good look at the track core courses. If you like the majority of these courses, Computer Engineering could be the perfect master for you!

The professors and their corresponding research groups at the EEMCS faculty are truly top-notch, and this is clearly visible in their courses

At the end of my bachelor's in Applied Physics, I followed a couple of general courses in IT. These courses taught me the basics of developing hardware and software, and I caught a glimpse of the amazing things that can be achieved when one cleverly harmonizes these two fields. Needless to say, the choice of doing my master's in Computer Engineering (CE) was swiftly made...
Having worked on academic projects in teams of international students I have experienced, at first hand, that there is indeed more than one way to solve a problem. Furthermore, the professors and their corresponding research groups at the EEMCS faculty are truly top-notch, and this is clearly visible in their courses. As an optional part of the master's programme, I did an internship last year at CERN in Switzerland, and I am currently working there on an awesome high-performance simulation platform as my graduation project. Last, but not least, recruiters and companies are literally lining up for CE graduates, so if you are considering this program, be prepared…

I was always fascinated by computers and the way they changed our everyday lives.

I completed my bachelor Electrical Engineering here at the TU Delft. I was always fascinated by computers and the way they changed our everyday lives. Even now computers are rapidly evolving and making our lives easier. Being part of a technological change that impacts the whole world, was one of the main reasons that motivated me to study Computer Engineering.

The main aspect that I was looking in a master was the combination of theoretical and practical work. Computer Engineering really offers this combination in a proper way...
During the projects you have to work in groups with different students to create a certain design or product. In these projects you learn how to communicate and work together with multiple people, which is really helpful for your future career. Also the satisfaction you get after finishing a project is really rewarding.

The master itself is a lot of work and will take a lot of time. But the key to productive studying is planning. If you plan your courses correctly and work hard, you'll pass easily. After studying hard, you can always find a place in Delft to relax and have a fun time. Delft is a really vibrate city with a lot of students who all know how to party.

Yang Ma
The CE programme focusses on hardware engineering at the architectural level, which is where my interests are.

I'm Yang Ma, and I recently completed my Master's degree in Computer Engineering (CE) at TU Delft. I previously took my Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering in Beijing, China. I decided to continue my studies at TU Delft as the university is known as one of the best universities of technology and engineering in Europe. The CE programme focusses on hardware engineering at the architectural level, which is where my interests are. Besides that, Delft is a really lovely town full of friendly people...
You also have a lot of freedom to choose your own specialization courses. Courses like Supercomputing for Big-data and Distribute Computing System familiarized me with the state-of-art computing mechanism widely used in industry. Personally, I also chose courses related to machine-learning since I am interested in the world of artificial intelligence. During my second year, I got the opportunity to work and do my thesis at a collaborating lab at Erasmus MC. With great help and support from my supervisors on both sides, I managed to graduate in advance, and was bestowed with cum laude. Now I started my career at Xiaomi, a smartphone manufacturing company in China. I am truly grateful for my experience in Netherlands, and now my future is full of possibilities.

You get a lot of freedom in choosing courses, so it's highly unlikely you will be stuck doing courses that you do not enjoy.

I recently completed my master's in Computer Engineering at Delft University of Technology. The program consists of a balanced mix of theoretical and practical courses. You get a lot of freedom in choosing courses, so it's highly unlikely you will be stuck doing courses that you do not enjoy.

The special thing about Computer Engineering is that the kind of problems you learn to solve are universal. Almost all engineering disciplines are starting to rely on computations of increasing size. Besides, the amount of data being generated is increasing at an enormous rate...
People do their graduation work at financial institutions, oil & gas companies, traditional computing firms, biotechnology/medical companies, as well as a variety of research institutes. The fact that your skills are so widely appreciated gives you lots of opportunities to work in the field you like, or to work in multiple fields during your career or even at the same time!

This would also be my advice to any future CE students: seize these opportunities! Talk to your professors, especially the ones whose research you appreciate, and look for interactions with companies. Most of my thesis work was carried out in the U.S. at IBM Research, an opportunity that would not have come my way if I had not struck up a conversation with a professor whose course I liked. I am proud to have completed the CE program and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in computing and performance optimization.

It is amazing to see how quickly students learn to build their own processors during the first year of their Master's degree programme.

I am the head of the Computer Engineering Laboratory...
Our Master's and PhD students have found interesting and well-paid jobs in a wide range of companies, and some have even started their own companies. They are praised for their ability to combine deep low-level understanding of hardware with excellent programming skills.

In collaboration with Wayne Luk from Imperial College, we started a company called BlueBee, which provides solutions for hardware acceleration in various application domains (primarily oriented towards Big Data), including finance and bioinformatics.
