Information-processing systems provide the backbone for almost all administrative and logistic operations within commercial production, business and public administration. Without software, high-tech systems are useless, whether large (e.g., a self-driving car or a robot for computer-assisted surgery) or small (e.g., a smartphone or an ordinary electronic card payment system). Moreover, software permeates all aspects of our life in society, ranging from Internet-based services like e-mail, online games, social networks and cloud computing, to large-scale scientific computing systems, traffic control systems and wireless sensor systems. All these systems need to have effective algorithms for their correct operation, good performance, high reliability and a well-thought-out architecture to make them easy to build and to maintain. Such essential features very well describe the specific focus of the Software Technology track.

specialisatie 4TU Cyber Security

Cyber security is a multidisciplinary field with computer science at its core.

For example, it involves cryptography, formal methods, secure software engineering, and machine learning. It also touches on a broad range of supporting disciplines, such as law, economics, criminology, management, and psychology.

specialisatie Information Architecture

The IA programme combines aspects from computer science and from management, and thus addresses the problem of concurrently designing and engineering enterprises and their supporting ICT applications.

If you like doing cool projects and learning a lot about the complex algorithms that make up machine learning, computer graphics, AI and security, then ST at TU Delft is a great choice!

I am very interested in algorithms that do cool stuff, such as rendering the amazing visual quality we have these days in games and animated movies or the impressive feats achieved by Machine Learning lately. The Master programme ST is a perfect fit for this, as you get courses that explain how these algorithms work in detail...
These courses do a great job in giving you a good idea of the most common problems and solutions you encounter. The projects allow you to explore these algorithms in more detail.

Currently, I am co-owner of OrbitGames together with Oliver Hokke. As the company name suggests, we are a game development company. We are focussing mostly on serious games for several customers (“KosmosKlikker” and “Mathy” for IWAL, “Held” for the Hartstichting). KosmosKlikker makes children associate sounds with their symbol (i.e. the sound of 'a' with the symbol 'a' and the sound of 'e' with the symbol 'e'). This strengthens the connection between the sounds and symbols in their brain, which should improve their reading skills.

I also work at ISAAC in Eindhoven, one of the best company's in e-commerce in the Netherlands. There, I work mostly on the web portal of a consumer finance company. This portal allows clients to apply for a new credit card or loan and check existing credit card and loan details. This is challenging because the system is quite complicated and, of course, security is a big concern.

There's a lot more to tell about all the projects I enjoyed during my studies and the current projects I am doing, but my overall advice would be: if you like doing cool projects and learning a lot about the complex algorithms that make up machine learning, computer graphics, AI and security, then ST at TU Delft is a great choice!

I also like the fact that there's almost no hierarchy in the university, which means that professors are easily approachable and really enthusiastic about their work.

Before I started my master in Computer Science, track Software Technology, I followed the bachelor programme in Computer Science and Engineering here in Delft. I chose to study in Delft as I like the university and the university also provides great career prospects. I also like the fact that there's almost no hierarchy in the university, which means that professors are easily approachable and really enthusiastic about their work...
The master programme Computer Science – Software Technology offers a lot of freedom regarding the courses you pick, which is ideal when you want to specialise in a certain topic. I like how software is literally everywhere in our lives, from the vending machine to the smartphones. During the courses we get a lot of hands-on assignments which often require group work. Examples of assignments that I really enjoyed were: using a language workbench to implement a compiler for MiniJava and writing a face recognition tool.

When you want to follow this programme, it's a good thing to orientate yourself beforehand. Explore beforehand what courses look interesting, this can really help to draft your study plan and help you find a proper thesis subject. Pro-activeness is the key to anything.

The great thing about the Software Technology track is that you can basically choose what you want to study among a huge list of amazing courses

My name is Ani, shortened from Anelia. I am originally from Sofia, Bulgaria, but live and study in Delft. I am interested in technology, programming, travelling and sports. I've studied Automation and Robotics during my bachelor at TU Sofia. I've always been interested in programming and I fell in love with the Netherlands, so I combined both of my dreams and came to study my master in Computer Science – Software Technology at TU Delft.

The great thing about the Software Technology track is that you can basically choose what you want to study among a huge list of amazing courses...
The courses Information Retrieval, Web Science and Multimedia Search and Recommendation were also very interesting, so I can say this is exactly what I expected to experience here.

I would advise everyone who wants to get a high quality education, to apply at TU Delft. Delft is an amazing town in typical Dutch style and is really great to live in. I still love it after almost two years living here. Plus, Rotterdam and Den Haag are so close that you basically have everything you need nearby. Once I graduate, I hope to find my dream job within the Computer Science field somewhere in Rotterdam or Delft as these are my favourite cities.

One of the best things about the Computer Science Masters at TU Delft, in my opinion, is that they are highly customisable.

I completed my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science in Antwerp, Belgium, during which I did an exchange program at TU Delft. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to come back for a full Master's degree.

One of the best things about the Computer Science Masters at TU Delft, in my opinion, is that they are highly customisable. There is a wide range of courses on various topics to choose from so everyone can put together a program that they find interesting and exciting. Because of the many research groups, you are sure to find a thesis topic you like to work on...
It allows you to explore all kinds of different areas of software technology. Anyone who is considering the software technology master I would advise to take a look at the range of offered courses.

Another important aspect is opportunity. Over the last year, I got the opportunity to continue working on a course project that I was very excited about. Eventually, it was installed on campus for everyone to see. I also got the opportunity to work with advanced and exclusive technology. It was great to work with different kinds of robots and try out augmented and virtual reality.

Delft is a lovely city. The city centre is great to have lunch, go out for dinner or grab a drink with friends.

Overall, I am happy with my choice because I am able to customise my Master's program to fit my interests and work on projects I love. With all these options and opportunities, the possibilities for the future seem endless.

Modern software systems can span millions of lines of code, are created by hundreds of people working together and are subject to continuous change

I am a professor of Software Engineering, the field which deals with building complex software systems. Modern software systems can span millions of lines of code, are created by hundreds of people working together and are subject to continuous change...
The group has an excellent research reputation. We have strong contacts with national as well as international companies, and collaborate with universities around the world.

Our MSc students can work together with our partners from Delft or with our international partners. As an example, one MSc student is working with the University of British Columbia (Vancouver) on an open source tool called Crawljax aimed at test automation for modern web applications. This tool was originally developed at TU Delft, and has been used by Google, Ebay, and Fujitsu.

Our students learn to take a leading role in such software engineering projects, and learn how to deal with the complexities that arise from software created for a continuously changing environment.
