In the master specialisation Applied History at Erasmus University Rotterdam you will learn how we need to use a long-term perspective if we want to come with sustainable solutions for global problems. You will also discover that nation states often use history to create narratives and identities that influence our daily lives. By studying the development of different global histories, you learn to understand how history is often a cultural, religious, social or political narrative created to legitimize nation states, conflicts, cultural identities or world domination.

specialisatie Global Markets, Local Creativities (GLOCAL)

In this two-year, international Master, you study how local places and actors generate local competitiveness under global markets conditions.

Global Markets, Local Creativities (GLOCAL) is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree programme taught over 2 years by a consortium of 7 universities. GLOCAL is an integrated, international programme interrogating the history, theory, institutions and cultures of global capitalism. It is a combination of social sciences and humanities approaches. You will receive a theoretical grounding in international business and the global economy, and will be encouraged to think critically about the respective roles of individuals, firms, cities, regions, nations and supra-national bodies in determining and shaping the world in which we live.

The programme is ideal for students with backgrounds in social science, arts and humanities, business management, and liberal arts, as it stresses a qualitative-historical, holistic analysis of globalisation and localisation processes at the intersection of history, economics, business and cultural studies.

Graduates receive three diplomas – one from each of the institutions at which they have studied.
