What are the key factors that governments should take into account when forming their migration policy? If you want to develop the skills to answer these questions in a professional capacity, then the master's programme in Public Policy and Human Development is a good fit for you.

The Master of Science in Public Policy and Human Development emphasises the connection between public policy and decision-making processes, or more specifically, the effectiveness and efficiency of governance. You will be equipped with a variety of skills, tools and knowledge which enable you to work as a policy designer or policy analyst. You will be capable of working within public and private institutions at local, national and international levels. The one-year master's programme is offered as a double degree in collaboration with United Nations University (UNU-MERIT  ).

The double degree programme jointly offered by Maastricht University and United Nations University is a one-year, full-time Master taught in English. The programme focuses on evidence-based policy, and students gain the knowledge and skills required to design and analyse policies. The double degree programme is comprised of core substantive courses and core skill courses in the autumn semester, specialisation courses in the spring semester, and a thesis in both semesters and the summer period.

Graduates of the Public Policy and Human Development programme are academically trained policy designers and analysts. Since its launch in 2005, over 1,100 students have successfully graduated from the programme. Many of them have gone on to work as public policy actors at the local or international level.

Graduates will be able to work throughout the world in the public and private institutions of both advanced and less developed countries, including national, regional and local governments, ministries, pension funds, market authorities, NGOs, as well as in international organisations and consultancies. Currently we have graduates working for amongst others: BMC, ILO, GTZ, Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Twynstra and Gudde, Triodos Bank, KPMG, AFM. Our graduates are well prepared for pursuing an academic career, a significant number of students continue with a PhD after their masters.
