Whether your ambition is to do research or to apply biomedical research in practice, you should consider getting your master’s degree in Nijmegen. With the master’s Biomedical Sciences you can get an understanding of molecular, individual or population and societal aspects of human health and disease. What sets us apart from other programmes is that students can design their own programme as broad or as specific as they prefer. Students will do this together with their specialisation coordinator. Students can follow courses from different specialisations. Biomedical Sciences is health and patient orientated, so you'll work from fundamentals to applying it in practice. To help with career choices, Biomedical Sciences offers the career profiles communication, consultancy, and research.

opbouwStudents have the freedom to design their own master's programme. During the first semester students generally follow courses from their chosen specialisation and career profile. The second semester each year students often perform internships. The order can differ. In addition, students write a literature thesis and follow research integrity rounds to improve academic and professional skills. Students can also perform courses at other faculties or universities or do additional internships.

1e jaar The master's offers the students many options to design a programme to their own preferences. Generally, students start their programme with courses from the Biomedical Sciences programme, specific to their specialisation and career profile. During the second semester, most students do their first internship.

2e jaar Students usually do their electives and their literature thesis during the first semester of the second year of the master's. These electives can differ from courses of other specialisations to courses at other faculties or universities. In the second semester, most students do their second internship.

This profile provides students with an extensive background in academic research within the field of biomedical sciences. In general, students will find employment in scientific departments of universities, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies or institutions where fundamental, pioneering, or translational research is performed. Others find work as advisors in a wide variety of public sectors and commercial organisations, or with private consultants, and regional environmental health services.

This profile teaches about the problems that may be encountered when communicating about biomedical sciences, and how such problems may be resolved. Subjects include communication theory and how to apply this knowledge in a variety of ways. A wide variety of organisations employ communication advisors with a background in biomedical sciences, such as research organisations, government (responsible for public campaigns), municipal health services (responsible for local and regional health education), funding organisations, patients' organisations, science museums, and broadcasting companies.

This profile is aimed at preparing students for a role as a scientific consultant or advisor. Scientific consultants combine ample knowledge of their scientific discipline with insight into the interaction between science, technology, and society. Additionally, they are sensitive to the views and stakes of people involved, and have the analytical and communicative skills to handle these. You will learn to think of consultancy as both a matter of content and as a matter of managing human interaction. You can help find sustainable and widely endorsed solutions to issues that come along with scientific and technological developments.

The aim of the master's programme is to educate students to academic professionals at MSc level that are able to perform and organise biomedical scientific research and apply the results to societal problems, in particular to improve human health and the quality of health care.
Our goal is to train you to be a biomedical professional who can end up in a wide variety of healthcare related professions inside or outside the academic sector.
