Did you know that the European Union (EU) is a political-economic union of 28 member states, of which 19 member states use the euro as their legal tender? Do you realize that the EU has the largest economy in the world, with a combined population of over 500 million inhabitants? Did you know how our European authorities deal with a crisis?
Following the outbreak of the financial crisis in 2008, which spread from the US to Europe, the stabilization of financial markets through financial sector reforms became a top priority in order to create a safer and sounder financial sector in the EU.
In order to understand European financial markets, institutions and their economic decisions, this summer course focuses on the policy measures taken in this respect and their effect on financial markets and the broader economy.
The programme includes a two day trip to Brussels, where students visit the European Commission and the European Parliament, and have the opportunity to speak to delegates and officials.
Overall this course presents a unique opportunity to understand Europe by offering a prime selection of the most challenging topics on European financial markets and institutions.
