Information Technology has an enormous impact on companies and other organisations, and on society as a whole. This comes with the necessary technical challenges of implementing the IT solutions and getting them up and running, but also wider and more fundamental challenges, such as: what are the information needs in the first place? How can these best be met? How can resulting IT solutions be adopted in an organisation? How can their use be best introduced and managed? And how can we ensure compliance, with business requirements and legal standards for security and privacy?

More often than not, technical problems are only the tip of the iceberg, and a broader perspective is needed to understand and solve them. This takes technical understanding as well as managerial skills. This 1-year English-taught Master's programme will teach you to become a digital architect who can look beyond mere technical sides to ICT adoption in designing competitive business solutions.

Waarom aan de Radboud University Nijmegen?

You will gain a unique combination of technological and organisational expertise. You will be taught by top researchers and experts of Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) and the Institute of Computing and Information Sciences (iCIS). Computer science or Information science?

Philipp van BebberAfter I finished high school in 2005, I had to do "compulsory community service" (German: Zivildienst) the next nine months. So, I had a lot of time to think about my future. I always wanted to work in the IT industry but I had no idea what kind of job would be interesting.

I asked some friends, who already studied in Nijmegen, about their experience and I visited an information day. The faculty building impressed me because it was new and had a modern style...
The master program consists of courses about information systems, enterprise engineering and security. You gain more knowledge about the particular domain during these courses but there are also courses that focus on training your soft skills. I recently followed the course "ICT in a different culture". During the course, you learn how to deal with people from a different culture. A study trip (this year to Chengdu, China) is also part of the course. We did research on IT outsourcing in China. Right now, I am looking for a master thesis topic and I want to finish my master this fall.

Nijmegen is not such a big city like Amsterdam or Utrecht but this will not say that life in Nijmegen is boring. The university sports center provides a lot of different sport activities and you can find a lot of bars in the city center of Nijmegen.

There is one last advice that I want to give you: If you have the time to take a language course, then do it! It is always easier to meet new friends when you already speak Dutch a little bit especially when you live in a house with other students.

Beroepsperspectief / arbeidsmarkt

There is a big demand for highly trained information experts who can bridge the gap between the builders and the users of IT to ensure good, user-friendly technology that meets an organisation's needs.
Many of our students are offered jobs even before they graduate. Most go into industry, banking and insurance, or public-sector organisations such as schools and hospitals. Some students develop their own ideas and innovations while taking part in this Master's programme. They see what is offered, understand what is lacking, and realise where possibilities lie. In Nijmegen there are plenty of opportunities for those wanting to start their own business.
