You will learn to go beyond the surface of daily news and to disentangle deeper global structures of economic growth and the distribution of wealth and power that underlie today's governance problems. We challenge you to not only understand and explain 'the world', but to view and assess it from the perspectives of different stakeholders, while understanding the social and economic structures and institutions enabling or hindering them in pursuing their objectives.
The programme consists of seven courses in the field of international political economy and a Master's thesis in which you will specialise further either in Economics or Political Science.
After graduation, you'll have the skills and knowledge for job positions at international firms, political parties, national ministries, market authorities, banks, the European Parliament and the European Commission.
You can apply for this specialisation in Economics or in Political Science. Depending on this, you will graduate with a MSc in either Political Science or in Economics. The diploma supplement accompanying your degree certificate will state that you have followed the International Political Economy specialisation.

Waarom aan de Radboud University Nijmegen?
Unique for the Netherlands, this Master's is taught by both economists and political scientists. It integrates economic approaches with perspectives from international relations. Professors and students interact in small groups, enabling you to participate in academic research and get a deeper understanding of the global economy and its underlying policy structures.
Studieprogramma
opbouwInternational Political Economy is a specialisation of the one-year Master's programme in Economics and Political Science, with a total course load of 60 EC. All courses are 6 EC and the Master's thesis is 18 EC. Internships are not a standard part of the curriculum, but we heartily support any student who wishes to do the extra work and undergo an internship.
The programme thus offers courses that combines the field of political sciences with economy. In the second semester students also work on their Master's thesis.

To be admitted you will need a Bachelor's degree in Economics (or related) with at least 18 EC in Political Science, 6 of which in International Relations (2nd year or higher), or a Bachelor's degree in Political Science (or related) with at least 18 EC in Economics, 6 of which in International Economics (2nd year or higher).

Our graduates have the competences required by employers, such as sound research and analytical skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and experience in working in teams and working independently.

Alumni from economics and political science have positions as policy makers in businesses, international organisations, political parties, national ministries, market authorities, the European Parliament and the European Commission. They also work as consultants for profit and non-profit organisations and as researchers at think-tanks or universities. In addition alumni are employed by banks, other financial institutions and the media.
