Be part of the solution and join the Climate Adaptation Governance track of our MSc in Cultural Geography!

Accelerated climate change and wide-ranging global risks such as biodiversity loss and global pandemics require fundamental transformations of how our societies are organised and interact with the environment. We need to adapt to these risks and foster increased resilience. These efforts will require culturally-sensitive and transdisciplinary approaches to governance to bring about enduring change.

In this master's programme, you will take specialised courses in governance as well as in urban and community-based adaptation. After taking advanced skills training courses in intervention impact assessments, data collection, and analytical methods, you will conduct field research on a topic of relevance to climate adaptation governance and write your Master’s thesis.

Waarom aan de University of Groningen?

Campus Fryslân is the only faculty in the Netherlands that offers an MSc programme in Cultural Geography. The curriculum focuses on the interplay between space and human well-being as well as on natural and cultural heritage, culture and identity, mobility and multiculturalism. Students can choose from two specialised tracks: Climate Adaptation Governance or Sustainable Tourism & Society.
The Climate Adaptation Governance track enables you to add value to adaptation solutions by contributing to much-needed political, economic, and financial insights into technical and environmental proposals. At the same time, the embeddedness of your studies in the wider Cultural Geography curriculum allows you to benefit from a culturally sensitive and place-based approach to adaptation governance.
