Niek Veldboom
I had an opportunity to immerse myself in different subjects like mathematics, robotics, and materials science.

Niek Veldboom - Student of the MSc Mechanical Engineering

At the end of my Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering & Management, I knew I wanted to further my knowledge through a technical degree programme but also wanted to work on different projects. For this reason, I chose the Master of Mechanical Engineering with the Smart Factories track. During the programme, it became clear to me just how broad it was...
My first research project, at NTS Norma, was about the cleanliness characteristics of 3D-printed metal. Besides the research project, I was involved in the design process by printing samples and testing different methods for quality. I really liked the contact between the different companies and the University. For example, I gave a presentation at a consortium for the partnerships. Working together with companies and the University and feeling useful gave me a lot of energy and confidence. My second research project was at ASML on control engineering. Once I graduate, I will start working for that company as a system integrator, where I can apply my technical knowledge from the Master’s programme.
