specialisaties

specialisatie Econometrics

Gain in-depth knowledge of econometric theory and acquire the skills to use advanced quantitative methods and techniques, perform empirical econometric analysis and develop and apply new models.

The core courses (among which Applied Microeconometrics, Bayesian Econometrics and Advanced Time Series Econometrics) help students to get acquainted with a wide range of topics that are essential for econometrics. Most of the courses consist of assignments, which can be individual or in small groups and a final exam. During the seminar course Case Studies in Applied Econometrics small groups of students undertake an applied research project under supervision of a staff member.

After graduation:
The quantitative skills you acquire in this programme are your ticket to a great starting position on the job market. Possible employers include: multinationals (including Shell, Unilever), public offices (including ministries in the Netherlands and the U.S. Federal Reserve Board), International Economic Organisations (including OECD and IMF) and academia (various international universities).

specialisatie Analytics and Operations Research in Logistics

The Master specialisation Analytics and Operations Research in Logistics at Erasmus School of Economics focuses on areas in transport and logistics requiring strong quantitative skills.

Operations Research is a broadly applicable discipline in which advanced quantitative methods are used to help better decision making. Quantitative Logistics studies the application of quantitative techniques to design, plan and control logistics systems. This programme trains you in both fields, while addressing real-life problems.

The programme differs from other logistics programmes in the sense that you learn all about the methodology underlying advanced decision support systems, but also about the implementation. In this master you will be trained to apply the latest quantitative techniques and face real-life challenges. In particular, you will learn how to tackle actual logistics problems 'from data to advice': designing a mathematical model, selecting an appropriate solution approach and implementing it as prototype software.

After graduation:
Sectors such as logistics/transport, healthcare and utilities have an increasing need for quantitative skills. Potential employers range from consultancy firms such as Ortec to logistics companies such as Air France-KLM or the Dutch Railways.

specialisatie Quantitive Finance

The Quantitative Finance programme covers all main areas in finance and focuses on the econometric and quantitative skills needed to solve important financial issues.

We provide you with the skills to apply quantitative techniques and econometric models to complex financial problems and develop and apply new econometric solutions when required. You start with core courses that help you to get acquainted with a wide range of topics that are essential for econometrics and finance such as asset pricing, financial derivatives and quantitative risk management. Many core courses include empirical assignments with the aim of developing the necessary skills for applying the econometric techniques in practice. Subsequently, you work in a team on a project provided by the financial industry in the seminar Financial Case Studies.

After graduation:
A master specialisation in Quantitative Finance offers excellent career prospects, both in the Netherlands and internationally. You will be well suited to work in banking/insurance, asset management, hedge funds, private equity, pension funds, consulting, regulatory bodies like central banks or academia.

specialisatie Business Analytics and Quantitative Marketing

This master specialisation focuses on the most creative side of data science: developing models and techniques to convert big data into knowledge, find opportunities and predict behaviour.

This programme requires strong quantitative and analytical skills. Our graduates are trained to complete a business-oriented research problem from start to finish. You will not only learn to apply the latest methods, but also to understand the mathematical and statistics details of their workings. This knowledge prepares you to develop new methods yourself and to continue to keep up with the fast developments in this field after graduation. You will be equipped with the tools to make use of the enormous amount of data that is available in organisations and support better decision-making.

After graduation:
Data scientists and business analysts are in high demand. For the first step in their careers our alumni found jobs as a (marketing) researcher or data scientist in:

  • Multinationals and internet companies
  • Market research organisations
  • Consultancy firms: both, general and specialised
  • Financial institutions like banks and insurance companies
  • Academia.
