Our international bachelor's programme in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology challenges you to explore cultural diversity by seeing the world through other people’s eyes. You will be challenged to examine everyday practices of individuals and groups around the world in relation to complex global challenges of diversity, sustainability and digitalisation.
This programme is definitely for you if:
* you often wonder why people are so different;
* you'd love to learn first-hand why people behave the way they do;
* you empathise with individuals, groups, and communities that constantly cope with pressing issues;
* you are interested in using photo and film in research;
* you relish the challenge and adventure of developing an independent mindset.

During the first year you will learn anthropological theories and terms so you can study people in their daily lives and write about them.
In the second year you specialise in Sustainable societies (SuSo) or Digital and Audiovisual Ethnography (DAE). The third year consists of writing a thesis, a course focused on personal career development and elective courses within and outside the field of anthropology.

This bachelor's degree will admit you to Leiden's own master's programme in Anthropology, which has specialisations in Visual Ethnography, Policy in Practice, and Global Ethnography.
It will also admit you to several Humanities and Social Sciences master's programmes, in Leiden, The Hague, or elsewhere, depending on how you tailored your third year.

Alumni of our programme typically find jobs that can vary from diversity officer at a municipality to television producer, or from environmental consultant to fundraiser, or coordinator of a refugee programme to privacy expert in a digital heritage project.
What all these positions have in common is that they are now filled by alumni whose careers paths were influenced by their fascination for people, how they live their daily lives and how they develop their cultural identities.
