I am Vasileios Papanastasiou and I am doing my Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at the TU Delft, Signals & Systems Track. I completed my previous diploma in Computer Engineering & Informatics at the University of Patras, Greece. I decided to take the next big step, attending one of the most popular and highly rated technical universities in the world...
All the above are combined with projects and applications in which you can apply the theory you study in. An important part is that in TU Delft, students are used to formulate groups to do exercises and assignments. This enhances the educational procedure and gives someone the opportunity to implement his soft skills. In general, the students are free to choose the courses that fit to their interests. Not to mention that all the academic staff are really helpful and open to answer questions regarding the courses' syllabus and projects. Furthermore, the professors have great connections with the industry and they can give very important insights and suggestions for potential future decisions. Concluding, Delft is a medium size city with everything a student needs. There are many pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafeterias. Moreover, Delft is very close to large cities like The Hague and Rotterdam and less than an hour far from Amsterdam.

Be it engineering, IT or research, the properly structured and constantly updated academic curriculum combined with a diverse research background at TU Delft are all set to put u probably at the peak of your career. I am a master student in Electrical Engineering with a research interest in electro-mechanics and Nanoelectronics devices, which deals with the design, fabrication and characterization of electronic circuits/systems at micro or nano scale and hence chose Microelectronics as my specialization track...
With time, this accumulates to gives you the confidence, knowledge and experience necessary to continue researching or enveloping yourself into a research area you might like. Apart from the motivating academic ambience, the faculty gives you 9-12 months for a thesis project, which can be chosen from a plethora of research opportunities available from both the faculty and industries. My research experience itself so far has been supported by 3 groups – Delft Institute for Microsystems and Nanoelectronics (DIMES), Kavli Institute of Nanoscience and NXP semiconductors. I will be graduating soon with a not-so-easy but definitely a unique and rewarding experience with TU Delft. On other note, the atmosphere is very international. Even if you want to, you cannot be in labs/classes all the time and miss all the fun around. Keep track of your grades!!! TU Delft is an internationally recognized university and it directly reflects how good an engineer you are.

Being “HIGH” is all that one can imagine when he/she starts thinking about Holland. It was quite a surprise(or I must say pleasant surprise) to actually live in a culture that legalizes most things which are otherwise considered taboo in major part of the world. One can imagine to be in the same state of highness if he/she opts to study microelectronics in TUDelft...
These routine details one can easily access through the department website. Apart from these some of the experiences during my studies so far have been quite amazing. From my observation so far in The Netherlands, dutch people seems to believe in the notion that one should be motivated enough to choose and do the things that interest him the most'. This could also be the reason for such an open minded and straight forward nature of the dutch people. This attitude is also reflected in the kind of course structure they have for masters studies in microelectronics or for that matter any branch. Only a small number of courses are made compulsory which serve to introduce the particular specialization they represent and account for 25 ECTS while rest of the credits can be completed as per student's interests. One is free to choose any course and at times it is free to choose courses from other departments but conditioned to fit into the student's study program. One notable difference in the masters program in microelectronics and that of other study programs is the number of credits for the thesis. The thesis project in microelectronics accounts for 60 ECTS (although a small number of 45 ECTS projects are also available) while for other study programs it accounts for 45 ECTS. One can also opt to work with a company on a particular thesis topic which is again upto the interest of the student. Depending on the direction of thesis one can also be sponsored to build a prototype which is a rare opportunity to get when compared to most other universities at masters level. I am currently associated with the electronic instrumentation group working on “The high resolution, high impedance sigma delta modulator” (again the word high). The group itself is well known for its contributions to the design of smart sensor systems and interface electronics. It is directly reflected in the number of journal and conference publications resulting every year. The discussions with the postdocs and phd students in the group is only serving to increase the knowledge of my specialization. The interactions with my friends associated with other groups also gives the same impression. The clean room facility in the department is one feature worth mentioning too. It could be a common facility in most of the world's best universities, but the fact that there are a few associated courses that allows a master student to access the clean room facilities and offers an opportunity to work there is something that even the experienced professional designers in the best of companies couldn't have been through.I am glad that I choose TUDelft for pursuing my master in microelectronics and I am sure that the university has the same level of excitement to offer for any student who wishes to study here. If it has to be concluded in a line then it would be “with the choice of pursuing master in microelectronics in TUDelft one also opts to be a complete engineer by default”.

I am a recent graduate of the Microelectronics track at TU Delft. When deciding to attend TU Delft, I hoped to develop my professional skills in all areas of circuit design and to learn about the most advanced technologies available in the industry today. This wish has been certainly fulfilled, as the curriculum at TU Delft is up-to-date with the recent developments in the field and provides students with several ways to deepen their knowledge of electronics...
The thesis was a great opportunity for me to experience the semiconductor industry first-hand and to better understand the business world I was entering upon graduation. Owing to the length of the project, I was exposed to multiple parts of the design flow and this allowed me to better identify my preferences, as well as the points where I needed to improve. The fact that upon graduation I would have a year of work experience under my belt is just an added benefit. After being exposed to various disciplines within the field of Microelectronics, I believe a job in analog/mixed-signal circuit design would make me the happiest and allow me to use all the knowledge I have gained at TU Delft.
