The successful application of Nanobiology will require not simply collaboration between disciplines, but true disciplinary integration of physics and biology. Developments in biomedicine, such as studies on human genome variation and the control of stem cells, increasingly require analysis and quantitative description at the fundamental level. Moreover, it is becoming possible to develop artificial biomolecules and nanoparticles with wide applications in research and medicine. The incorporation of new biological building blocks is highly promising in for instance industrial biotechnology and medical science. These advances will reshape many aspects of medical diagnosis and treatment. The rapid advancement of modern biomedical, biophysical and computational technologies promises to provide new tools to gain in depth knowledge of the fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms controlling health or involved in disease.

opbouwThe first year of the Nanobiology programme focusses on coursework. A combination of knowledge and academic/professional skills preparing students to undertake research projects.
The second year is focused on research projects consisting of two research projects with different focusses.
1e jaar The curriculum of the first year consists of:
20 EC of required didactic courses covering topics such as analytical mechanics, image processing, modeling dynamical systems, cancer biology, and genetic engineering
a choice between 2 6 EC Biophysics courses
12 EC of writing and presenting courses, including a seminars course and a two part Project Development course which includes writing a literature review and a project proposal.

2e jaar The second year consists of two research projects.
One is a , 18 EC Broadening research project which students can choose from several options including company internship, interdisciplinary research/design project, or nanobiology academic research project.
The second is a 42 EC Master End Project, this is a largely independent project in the research group of a Nanobiology supervisor. It will include a variety of research activities and end in a written thesis and presentation.

The Nanobiology Master programme is an intensive study combining high level math, physics, biology and integrated courses. Scheduled time also includes guided practicals and work sessions.

Students may choose to do a self composed set of electives abroad with approval by the board of examiners or choose to do one of their two research projects outside of Nanobiology, either in a Dutch university or abroad.
honours-/excellence program Master Nanobiology Honours Programme

For many students the most important objective of an Honours Programme Master is to improve their versatility in their future job of researcher, engineer, designer or different.

The Honours Programme consists of 20 EC on top of the regular master programme of 120 EC. The full Nanobiology programme including the additional honours track should be finished within the standard two years. It is an individual programme which contains a specially developed 5 ec course - Critical Reflection on Technology - for all TU Delft honours programme MSc students plus a 15 EC coherent package of challenging courses and/or projects. An Honours Programme is not just a package of courses on top of your Master programme; it has to be something special and challenging for you.
