The programme is open for students with an internationally recognized bachelor's degree in chemistry or a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in chemistry. If you are interested in fundamental chemistry and applied research and you are looking for a programme with ample of opportunities to assemble your own study path, our Chemistry programme is the right choice. You will be trained for a career in research within or outside academia. You can also choose a specialisation in which you combine one year of Chemistry research with one year of training in business, communication or education.

The programme consists of five components:
(1) Research training
(2) Academic development
(3) Core courses: four courses of 6 EC each from a set of eight options in the chosen research area (Chemical Biology or Energy & Sustainability) provide our students with a broad basis.
(4) Specialisation-specific components: dependent on the specialisation. A double specialisation is also possible, which takes an extra year to complete.

After completion of the MSc Chemistry programme students will have developed:
• Knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts of Chemistry from textbooks and primary literature pertaining to the research area “Chemical Biology” or “Energy & Sustainability”
• The ability to plan chemical research, perform experiments within an appropriate time frame, collect and store data in a logical way, such that colleagues can easily find and access the data (data management)
• The ability to make an independent analysis of scientific problems, analysis of relevant specialist literature, and formulate verifiable hypotheses
• An appropriate critical scientific attitude, i.e. the ability to analyse results and critically evaluate their validity and accuracy
• The skill to communicate chemical research progress and results to colleagues, supervisors and experts
• The ability to write independently a structured and accurate report on performed chemical research
• The ability to perform with an academic attitude and the skills for autonomous self-development, taking into account the ethical and social aspects of the natural sciences.

Beroepsperspectief / arbeidsmarkt
After completing the MSc Chemistry programme, students have abroad array of career prospects. The master's degree is a steppingstone for those graduates with the aspiration to pursue a PhD degree. Students who want to apply their chemistry knowledge outside the university have good job possibilities in R&D departments in industry,
business, public utility companies, teaching, consultancy and government bodies.
The MSc Chemistry trains students as independent and creative researchers who can also use their analytical skills to resolve challenges in their career in science or in society.
